Российское вторжение в Украину является «суровым напоминанием» о вызовах, с которыми сталкивается сегодня международное сообщество. В пятницу состоялась ежегодная встреча ООН с ОБСЕ – региональным органом, в который входят 57 государств Европы, Центральной Азии и Северной Америки. Министр иностранных дел Мальты заявил о том, что в результате конфликта в Украине страны ОБСЕ оказались в условиях неопределенности. «Агрессивная война России против Украины не только отражается в темных коридорах истории, но и служит суровым напоминанием об испытаниях, с которыми в настоящее время сталкивается наша многосторонняя система», – сказал он.
Борг сообщил Совбезу, что международный порядок, основанный на правилах, призванных спасти последующие поколения от бедствий войны, в нынешние беспрецедентные времена подвергается испытаниям. В то же время, по его словам, ОБСЕ должна оставаться приверженной принципам и обязательствам, согласованным ее членами 50 лет назад и направленным на восстановление мира и безопасности во всем регионе.

«Мы должны и будем держать незаконную агрессивную войну России против Украины на первом месте нашей повестки дня», – сказал он.
Борг ранее посетил Украину и воочию увидел разрушения, вызванные войной, которая унесла тысячи жизней и вынудила миллионы людей покинуть свои дома. Находясь в Киеве, он также подтвердил непоколебимую поддержку ОБСЕ суверенитету и территориальной целостности Украины.
«Атаки [на Украину] должны прекратиться. Этой войне должен быть положен конец», – сказал он, призвав к освобождению трех сотрудников ОБСЕ, которые находятся под стражей на востоке Украины с апреля 2022 года.

Во время своего пребывания в должности Борг, по его словам, также будет уделять приоритетное внимание другим региональным конфликтам – в Карабахе, Абхазии, Южной Осетии и Приднестровье.
«Мы нацелены на взаимодействие со всеми сторонами для улучшения перспектив всеобъемлющего урегулирования конфликтов путем предотвращения эскалации и восстановления стабильности», – заявил он.
Он сообщил о своих недавних визитах в Сербию, Косово и Молдову, и подчеркнул готовность ОБСЕ поддерживать мир, укреплять демократию и верховенство закона.
Среди других приоритетных направлений работы ОБСЕ – киберсфера, противодействие транснациональным угрозам, сокращение цифрового разрыва, изменение климата и обеспечение безопасности журналистов, в том числе в Интернете, с особым акцентом на безопасность женщин-журналистов.
