UN Still Struggles to Get Aid into Gaza – A Tough Nut to Crack!

  1. Why do the authorities in Israel often deny access to humanitarian aid convoys coordinated by the UN in Gaza? Is there any official explanation for this policy?

    1. They very often deny [access], and that’s where it all ends. We don’t get any explanations,” said UN OCHA representative Jens Laerke during a UN humanitarian agencies briefing in Geneva. During a widely covered phone call between US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel pledged to reopen the Erez border crossing to northern Gaza and facilitate aid delivery through the nearby port of Ashdod. The White House stated it will closely monitor the situation, but Israel has not announced a date for the reopening of the crossing or an increase in routes to Gaza, as per reports, has not yet occurred. As confirmed by Laerke, when asked about additional corridors for humanitarian aid delivery, including the Erez checkpoint, as of Monday evening, OCHA had not received any information about the checkpoint being opened. In March, more than half of the food convoys

  6. Do they ever explain why they deny access so frequently? It seems like a recurring issue without any clear justification.
